Preamble

The contribution of human labor is essential to organization. To understand this phenomena is difficult for managers of such organizations because of its complexity. As a result, many people assume that every activity is a step toward achieving a goal. Therefore, in order for an organization or an individual to participate in any productive initiative, the endeavor itself must have underlying causes that include the individual working in that direction. As a result, the state of the working environment must be appropriate if it is to have any influence on the organization's ability to achieve its goals (Chandrasekar, 2020).

As a result, the nature of the office is concerned with the factors that impact the productivity of employees; specifically, these factors comprise the "why" of people's activities. Why do different individuals behave in such a manner? Why is X's moral standard considered to be greater than Z's? What exactly are these advances in the efficiency of one's work? These concerns may be addressed if one has a firm grasp of the dynamics of the working environment and the ways in which those dynamics influence productivity.

Background to the Study

The atmosphere of the workplace is a significant factor in the overall performance of the workforce. It has been hypothesized that the working environment has a significant influence on the performance of workers, either in a favorable or bad direction (Chandrasekar, 2020).

There are worldwide groups throughout the globe that discuss the rights of employees. The majority of individuals spend fifty percent of their lives indoors, in circumstances that have a significant impact on their mental state, behaviors, talents, and performance (Dorgan, 2021). It is generally accepted that a more favorable working environment would lead to improved results and higher levels of productivity. The workers will be boosted, which will eventually lead to an increase in their productivity when the workplace atmosphere is improved. Several pieces of research literature that pertain to the study of multiple offices and office buildings indicated that factors such as dissatisfaction, cluttered workplaces, and the physical environment are playing a major role in the loss of employees' productivity. This is due to the fact that dissatisfied employees are less productive (Carnevale 2019).

In the 1990s, a number of elements, including the social environment, information technology, and flexible methods of arranging work processes, went through significant shifts, which caused the factors of the work environment to also go through significant changes (Hasun & Makhbul, 2020). When workers are both physically and emotionally well, they will have a greater motivation to work, which will lead to improved overall performance from the workforce. In addition, a well-kept working environment contributes to a lower rate of absenteeism, which in turn boosts the performance of the staff members and ultimately results in a higher level of output at the place of employment (Boles et al, 2021).

According to a study published by the Economic and Social Council in 2007, the expansion of the world's economy is increasingly unable to provide the kind of new and better employment that might contribute to a decrease in levels of poverty. Despite high and sustained economic growth in many developing countries, unemployment is on the rise, a significant portion of the labor force earns wages that are below the level that would be considered adequate for subsistence, and the vast majority of non-agricultural jobs are located in the informal economy. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that, in recent years, there has been a change in emphasis away from a sole interest in economic development and toward a broader concern with enhancing the quality of employment. This movement has been brought about by many factors.

Governments from all across Africa have made urgent pleas for people to take action in order to overcome these obstacles. At the Extraordinary Summit on Employment and Poverty Alleviation in Africa that took place in Ouagadougou in September 2004, the African Union decisively adopted the ILO's decent work agenda, which places a focus on the development of quality employment.

Statement of the Problem

According to Chandrasekar (2020), there should be a greater emphasis placed on recognizing and addressing issues pertaining to the working environment. This is due to the fact that employees who have a poor opinion of their workplace are more likely to experience chronic stress. According to Dorgan (2021), the term "working environment" refers to the procedures, systems, structures, tools, and circumstances that exist in the workplace and have an effect, either positively or negatively, on an individual's level of performance. In addition, the working environment consists of the company's regulations, rules, culture, resources, working relationships, and work location, as well as internal and external environmental elements, all of which have an impact on the manner in which employees carry out their job responsibilities. The purpose of this research is to investigate the influence that a worker's physical surroundings have on their level of productivity on the job.
